SAT Reasoning Test (Newbies)

The SAT Reasoning Test is a standardized test for college admissions in the United States. The SAT is administered by the College Board not-for-profit corporation in the United States and is developed, published, and scored by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). After SAT's introduction in 1901, its name and scoring has changed several times. In 2005, the test was renamed as "SAT Reasoning Test" with possible scores from 600 to 2400 combining test results from three 800-point sections (math, critical reading, and writing), along with other subsections scored separately. Nearly every college in America accepts the SAT or Subject Tests as a part of its admissions process. That's why more than two million students take the SAT every year.
Benefits of a SAT
  • The SAT provides an alternate to the ACT.
  • Usually students will score higher on one test than the other.
  • Colleges of interest can receive your scores and send you information.
  • A high SAT score will increase the chances of admission in top Business Schools.
  • There are good chances of getting some kind of financial assistance with a high SAT score.
  • Visa Officers also give weightage to high SAT scores while considering Visa applications.

SAT Eligibility

SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors. Indian students who has completed their 12 years of school education successfully from any recognized Indian board or university can take SAT for admission in the different streams available in to various American colleges.

SAT Exam Structure

SAT programs in India and across the world are administered through International Representatives of ETS (Educational Testing Services), United States. The programs are offered as two separate tests-

  1. SAT Reasoning Test
  2. SAT Subject Test

SAT Reasoning Test: consists of three major sections. Each section receives a score on the scale of 200–800. Each major section is divided into three parts. There are 10 sub-sections, including an experimental section that may be in any of the three major sections. The experimental section is used to normalize questions for future administrations of the SAT and does not count toward the final score. The test contains 3 hours and 45 minutes of actual timed sections, although most administrations, including orientation, distribution of materials, and completion of the biographical sections, run about 5 hours (15–25 minutes per each section) long.

  • Mathematics: The Mathematics section of the SAT consists of three scored sections, possibly four if the student's experimental section is a math section. There are two 25-minute sections and one 20-minute section.
  • Critical Reading: The Critical Reading section of the SAT is made up of three or four sections, with varying types of questions, including sentence completions and questions about short and long reading passages.
  • Writing: The writing section of the SAT includes multiple choice questions and a brief essay. The multiple choice questions include error identification questions, sentence improvement questions, and paragraph improvement questions.
  • The essay section, which is always administered as the first section of the test, is 25 minutes long. All essays must be in response to a given prompt. The prompts are broad and often philosophical and are designed to be accessible to students regardless of their educational and social backgrounds. The essay score accounts for roughly 30% of the writing score; the multiple choice component accounts for roughly 70%.

SAT Subject Tests (formerly SAT II: Subject Tests): are designed to measure the applicant’s knowledge and skills in particular subject areas like English, history, mathematics, science and language. The tests do not match any particular textbook or method of instruction. The tests' content evolves to reflect up to date trends in high school curriculum or 10 + 2 school curriculum, but the types of questions vary a bit from year to year.

CMA: Certified Management Accountant

The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential is the professional designation for management accountants and financial managers. The Certificate provides distinction in today's economic climate and is an opportunity to certify your expertise in business areas that are critical to the decision-making process. In 1972, the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) began the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) program to provide professional recognition for the management accountant that would be a comparable designation of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for the public accountant
Objectives
The CMA program has four objectives:
  • To establish management accounting as a recognized profession by identifying the role of the management accountant and financial manager, the underlying body of knowledge, and course of study by which such knowledge is acquired;
  • To encourage higher educational standards in the management accounting field;
  • To establish an objective measure of an individual's knowledge and competence in the field of management accounting; and
  • To encourage continued professional development by management accountants.

About CMA Examination The candidate must successfully complete a rigorous examination that serves as an objective measure of that individual's knowledge and competence in the field of management accounting. Moreover, the exam questions are constructed to test an individual's ability to analyze information and communicate the results in a meaningful and understandable manner to aid management in making decisions.

Beginning December 1, 1997, the CMA and CFM Examinations, will be given in a computer-based format. The examinations will be 100% objective and will consist of carefully constructed multiple-choice questions that will test all levels of cognitive skills. The exams will be offered daily (except Sundays and holidays) at an extensive network of Sylvan Technology Centers located throughout the U.S. and internationally.

The exam consists of four parts:

  • Part 1: Economics, Finance, and Management
  • Part 2: Financial Accounting and Reporting (* waived for individuals who have passed the U.S. CPA exam.)

PRM: Professional Risk Manager (Newbie)

The Professional Risk Manager (PRM™) certification program is the global standard for the world's top financial risk professionals. Endorsed by leading businesses and leading graduate programs, it counts candidates from more countries than any other program for risk managers. The program is offered at nearly 4,000 centers in more than 140 countries across the globe.
Benefits of PRM
  • Global - Offered in over 140 countries at nearly 4,000 testing centers, the PRM is a true international benchmark.
  • Flexible - Risk managers' schedules are far from predictable, so you can take PRM exams any business day of the year and in any order you wish.
  • Predictive Power - Because the PRM is broken into four exams, each of which must be passed to attain the designation, you cannot use strength in one area, say Math or Finance, to cover weaknesses in other area, say Risk Management. Exams with one overall score cannot reliably validate each critical area of competence. This muddling creates uncertaintly about whether the candidate does indeed have the broad knowledge and understanding that risk managers must bring to their job. The point of a certification program is to remove such uncertainty.
  • Affordable - This is also part of the global aspect. We recognize that not all economies are alike, so those who earn less than US$25,000 per year are eligible for fee discounts.
  • The PRM Handbook - Written by over 40 leading authors, the PRM Handbook is available anywhere in the world that has access to the Internet.
  • Endorsements - Many companies have put their brand names on the line by publicly endorsing the PRM exam. There are no such firms doing this publicly for any other risk management certification program that we know of.
  • Recognition of Other Achievements - We provide partial credit to those that have demonstrated their skills through attaining designations like the CFA, FSA, ASA and others.
  • No Maintenance Fees - Just because you are successful doesn't mean that PRMIA should earn an annuity. We will provide you with benefits as a successful PRM like training course discounts and access to resources that are only for PRMs. You won't need to pay us anything to keep your designation active.
  • Quality - Because the PRM is delivered via computer, in controlled testing facilities, we are able to monitor questions so that they truly reflect our syllabus and desired degree of difficulty. In other words, our exam is designed, not just assembled.
  • Respect - The PRM is the most challenging certification program for financial risk managers. Holders of the PRM as easily distinguished for their achievement and have the backing of PRMIA, the premier meeting place for the risk profession.

This strategy is followed to determine whether the pretest questions can be used in future PMI examinations as actual questions. The pretest questions, included in the 200-question examination, are not considered for pass/fail determination. Hence, candidates are evaluated on basis of the remaining 175 questions.
