CIA: Certified Internal Auditor (Newbies)

The Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) designation is the only globally accepted certification for internal auditors and remains the standard by which individuals demonstrate their competency and professionalism in the internal auditing field. Candidates leave the program enriched with educational experience, information, and business tools that can be applied immediately in any organization or business environment. The IIA will be offering the CIA Challenge Exam for members of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants on November 15, 2007.
The Institute of Internal Auditors-India (IIA-India) is affiliated to its parent body, The Institute of Internal Auditors, USA (IIA-Inc). To enhance professionalism amongst its members, IIA-India has brought to India, the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examination conducted by the IIA-Inc at a global level.

CIA Exam Eligibilty

The IIA will accept student candidates into the CIA program who are: (1) enrolled as a senior in an undergraduate program or as a graduate student; (2) full-time students as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled (a minimum of 12 semester hours or its equivalent is required for undergraduate students and nine semester hours for graduate students); and (3) register for and take the CIA exam while enrolled in school.

In India :

  • A Bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college- level institution (CA, CS and ICWA degrees qualify).
  • Character reference from a responsible person such as supervisor, manager, educator or a CIA.
  • 24 months of internal auditing experience or its equivalent. This can also be completed along with the examinations.

About CIA Exam The Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) exam tests a candidate's knowledge of current internal auditing practices and understanding of internal audit issues, risks and remedies. The exam is offered in four parts, each part consisting of 125 multiple-choice questions.

Parts I, II, and III are considered the core global syllabus of the CIA exam - offering a strong focus on corporate governance and risk issues and exhibiting alignment with The IIA's Professional Practices Framework. Part IV of the CIA exam is designed for modification for regional and audit specialization testing. Hence, The IIA offers Professional Recognition Credit for Part IV (PRC-IV) for qualified professional certifications.
